About Us

Who Are We?

Nuiākea is a non-credit distance learning outreach program of the Kīpuka Native Hawaiian Student Center at the University of Hawai'i at Hilo. Nuiākea was established in 2005 to serve Native Hawaiian communities world-wide and is funded by the U.S. Department of Education, Office of Post-secondary Education, Title III, Part A Native Hawaiian Serving Institutions Program.

Nuiākea works with the University of Hawaiʻi at Hilo College of Continuing Education & Community Service (CCECS) to administer the program.

Mission and Vision

The mission of Nuiākea is to present the promise of Hawaiʻi, to reacquaint, recover and redefine these communities with Hawaiʻi, their ancestral home.

Our vision is to provide a holistic on-line learning experience of Hawaiʻi, blending culture, technology and on-site instruction for Hawaii’s descendants.
